CDPC Lights Up Sagada with "Gulay Pa More!" – A Feast of Culture, Crops, and Community
Jun 12, 2025

Our partner in the Philippines, the Center for Development Programs in the Cordillera (CDPC), recently turned up the flavor and the fun with the vibrant Gulay Pa More! (translated: More Vegetables!) event in Sagada — and what a celebration it was!
Held at the Indigenous People's Center and Agroecology Learning Farm in Kiltepan, this gathering brought together farmers, food lovers, youth, and community leaders to celebrate the region’s rich culinary heritage and indigenous crops. The event spotlighted the colorful biodiversity of the Cordillera, featuring traditional dishes, ancient farming wisdom, and powerful food stories passed down through generations.
The center also showcased the Kumbasa Noodle House, CDPC’s inspiring social enterprise that serves mouthwatering squash noodles and other dishes made from surplus produce of local farmers. Visitors explored the center’s solar-powered water and production system, a shining example of sustainable innovation in action.
From cooking workshops and mushroom foraging to agroecology talks and a coffee farm trail, Gulay Pa More! was a joyful explosion of taste, knowledge, and community spirit. Its themes were kagulayan (vibrant vegetables), kabute (savory mushrooms) and kape (rich coffee) perfectly captured Sagada’s natural and cultural wealth. And the best part? The local government of Sagada pledged to make the event official through local legislation, securing a brighter future for farmer-led food systems rooted in tradition, sustainability, and sovereignty.
